Science Literacy for Baddies

Hello and I am glad you’re here!

I first fell in love with science communication in grad school. As an exotic dancer during the COVID pandemic, I watched my friends and coworkers struggle to find information about how to protect themselves while still finding ways to do their job. But information to guide dancers and other sex workers during that time was severely lacking. We were faced with this issue again during the 2022 mPox outbreak. We all know that being left out of the conversation is nothing new. It has always been evident to me that the world was determined to ignore our needs— often at the cost of our safety. This has understandably led to us in the adult industry distrusting guidance from public health officials. I have seen this lack of trust cause harm to my community first hand. As a dancer of 11 years AND someone with a background in science and research, I felt a calling to dismantle that barrier. And so, the Dancing Data Nerd was born!
